Warts are benign, dry, crusty skin growths cause by a virus. There are no 100% effective medications to completely remove or prevent warts, but there are several treatments that are safe and effective (i.e. liquid nitrogen, cauterization and sometimes excision and immunotherapy.) The treatments will depend on where the warts are located, how many are present, the age of the person and the type of wart.
Sine warts are a virus, they can be spread from person to person and can occur more easily if the skin has been damaged – which explains the high frequency of warts in children who bite their nails or suck their thumbs. Warts can also be spread by shaving the legs or face. Sometimes warts will disappear with no treatment.
